It requires a registered fingerprint scan, but incoming WhatsApp calls can be answered without a fingerprint scan.
In particular, the update does not yet appear to be available in all regions, but once it arrives, the WhatsApp says you will be able to change the additional security in the app's privacy settings menu. ۔ There are options to allow the app to stay unlocked for up to a minute or 30 minutes after you unlock, and a toggle to prevent the contents of your messages from getting notifications.
