Purpose

I had a requirement to install Oracle10g Developer Suite (Oracle Forms 10g, Oracle Reports 10g & Oracle JDeveloper 10g, etc) Complete in my machine for a training assignment that I had to provide to students at UAE Institute. I Googled a lot to find out the download of Oracle 10g Dev Suite but was unable to find it.

I went to the Oracle site too for the download but couldn’t find Oracle Version 10g as there are successors and the latest versions on offer. Still, many companies are using Oracle10g Forms and Reports 10g as this is the most stable & successful explorer / internet-based version Oracle has offered. Companies still are using Oracle Developer 6i (Forms 6i & Reports 6i).

After Googling a lot, on a couple of sites, I too find out the link to download Oracle Developer Suite 10g which tempted me to go at it but after anxiously clicking the download button of Oracle Developer Suite 10g and after successfully downloading it and installing the same, it was only to find out that the version is not Oracle10g instead Oracle9i. I was so dejected by that time.

Download Settings

Without wasting any more time as I had to fly to DXB for the training I decided to search in the market physically and with a lot of difficulties searching here and there luckily eventually I found one place where I was able to find out the Oracle Developer Suite 10g DVD. I checked the DVD on the computer before heading home because I had very limited time and I couldn’t afford to go back and return and search again if anything goes wrong.

The reason why I am telling you all this is that I understand users who are finding it difficult to download, install and use Oracle 10g Developer Suite on their machines and that’s the only reason that forced me to share the Oracle 10g Developer Suite download with you.

After downloading it's not a straightforward install, I mean you have to perform some settings in order to install it correctly which I have explained below in detail step by step in order to make sure that after Downloading 10g Dev Suite you are able to install it without any hassle. Soon I am planning to release a full video on how to install Oracle 10g Developer Suite after downloading the same which will be shared in the blog as well. Before performing the below steps kindly make sure that if oraparam.ini changes are already there, there is no need of doing anything to skip (a) steps because I am planning to upload my oraparam.ini file which I have modified for my machine, other steps are mandatory. These settings are for Windows 7 & Windows 10 Operating Systems, I have not tried installing Oracle Developer Suite 10g on Windows 8 yet. If any of you are installing the same on OS other than Windows 7 & Windows 10 do share your valuable experience in the comments below in order to update this blog and help others.

Steps before starting the installation of Oracle 10g Developer Suite:

a)      Changes in oraparam.ini file

1.  Open DOWNLOAD\Oracle DevSuite10g\Disk1\install\oraparam.ini (make sure to make a copy before editing oraparam.ini file) possibly open it in Notepad++

2.       Go To Line No 37 of oraparam.ini
             Windows=5.0,5.1,5.2
             Replace with
             Windows=5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0,6.1

            (For Windows 10 Users)
               Line#37 after the addition of "6.2,6.3,10.0" will now be like this:
                      Windows=5.0,5.1,5.2,6.0,6.1,6.2,6.3,10.0

3.       Go To Line No 87 of orapamra.ini
             Press Enter twice and paste the text given below as it is and press enter
             [Windows-6.1-required]
            #Minimum display colours for OUI to run
            MIN_DISPLAY_COLORS=256
            SWAP_SPACE=1535
            TEMP_SPACE=150

             (For Windows 10 Users)
             Go To Line No 93 of orapamra.ini
             Press Enter twice and paste the text given below as it is and press enter
             [Windows-10.0-required]
            #Minimum display colours for OUI to run
            MIN_DISPLAY_COLORS=256
            SWAP_SPACE=1535
            TEMP_SPACE=150

Now you are finished with the oraparam.ini changes and are a step closer to installing Oracle Developer 10g Suite on your machine.

b)      Set the Paging File Size

Now you have to set the paging file size of the drive you want to install Oracle Developer 10g Suite. For this purpose, you have to go to

System Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Setting -> Advanced -> Change

Select the Drive -> Click the Custom Radio Button -> Edit both text boxes below with 1535
Initial Size (MB) and Maximum Size (MB)

Then Press OK, OK, OK and Windows 7 will prompt you to restart, it's mandatory that you restart Windows 7 before beginning with the installation of Oracle Developer Suite 10g. I am assuming that you will be able to find System Properties in your operating system. For users who are unable to find System Properties in their OS follow this kindly

Right Click on My Computer -> on the left you will find Advanced System Setting Click it -> System Properties are open now.

After the restart, you can start the installation of Oracle Developer Suite 10g (Forms 10g, Reports 10g, JDeveloper 10g, etc)

c)       Set the Program Compatibility Mode

Before Double Clicking on Download\Oracle DevSuite10g\Disk1\Setup.exe

Right Click on Setup.exe -> Select Properties -> Go To Compatibility Tab -> Click on Run this program in compatibility mode for: -> and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) for the combo box -> Now Click OK.

All Settings are done and now you are all set to go to install Oracle Developer Suite 10g on your machine.

d)      Eventually, begin with the Installation of Oracle Developer Suite 10g

Now run the Setup.exe file mentioned above and the installation of Oracle Developer Suite 10g will begin which I am sure you will be able to perform on your own with the next, next…….and finish because all important setups are already done by you.

This Installation Tutorial of Oracle10g Developer Suite is for Windows 7 Operating System, I have not tried installing Oracle Developer Suite 10g on Windows 8 or Windows 10 yet. If any of you are installing the same on any other Operating System other than Windows 7 do share your valuable experience in the comments below in order to update this blog and help others.

Hopefully, this tutorial has helped you and you will be able to download and install Oracle Developer Suite 10g successfully with the help of the steps mentioned above. I am also planning to release the video related to the Installation of Oracle Developer Suite 10g will be shared here.

    1. Thank you for your kind words and feedback! I'm delighted to hear that the tutorial was helpful to you on Win10 Pro 64-bit.

      Regarding your note about the installation path, I appreciate your contribution to the discussion. It's valuable for other users to know that placing the install files on the C: directory is recommended, as a complex path may cause issues.

      If you have any more insights or questions, feel free to share. I'm here to help!

    Just a comment for other users : Long path blocks install. Place the files on root directory like c:\temp
